Technicon at Printpack in Greater Noida in May – Hall 9D Stand H18
Mumbai-based Technicon is one of India’s leading manufacturers of machines used in newspaper mailrooms. The company which has decided to diversify to manufacturing machines for the packaging industry has already begun by developing its initial products primarily for the folding carton segment.
“We have developed two machines that will automate the post folding gluing stage. Currently, the post-production, that is the stage after the carton is folded and glued, at a convertor’s shopfloor, is mostly manual. With our machines these processes will get automated. At this moment I will not want to divulge more details about the machines. The industry will see these solutions live at the upcoming Printpack 2022,” says Rajiv Gandotra, founder of Technicon India.
Gandotra claims Technicon’s new solutions will help convertors increase the speed of their folder gluers by up to 100% and subsequently achieve higher production and revenue with their existing equipment. These solutions will also enhance labor productivity, he adds.
“For a carton converter, the star of the production chain is the folder gluer. In the case of crash lock bottom cartons, the manual process that is required to invert the cartons due to the difference in thickness between both ends and then pack them into the shipper boxes after the folding and gluing is done, proves to be time consuming and strenuous for the labor. Hence to ease this operation the speed of the folder gluer is reduced. This leads to below optimal productivity and reduced usage of the folder gluer. Our solutions should help solve this issue,” says Gandotra.
“We are putting 25 years of our experience of newspaper mailroom automation into our new packaging post-production automation venture,” he adds.
Technicon pretty much manufacturers all types of machines that are used in a newspaper mailroom and there is not much it can develop in this segment. A few years back Gandotra thought of diversifying into something new as the company was reaching a saturation point.
“Diversify is what was the calling from within,” says Gandotra. “So, we thought of developing something new for the packaging machines that would be for the packaging industry. However, I did not push this idea very hard then. However, during the lockdown when our business got hit hard, I decided to finally make the move.”
Gandotra says that Technicon decided to make post-production machines for the packaging segment as this was a natural progression from the company’s main line of business. “We love post-production automation…be it newspapers or our new love, packaging,” he states.
Technicon will be participating in the Printpack 2022 and will demonstrate these two new machines at the expo. “We will unveil the new machines for the first time for the industry at Printpack India 2022. All the details about the new solutions will be divulged at the expo. Technicon will be at stand H18 in hall 9D,” Gandotra says.
The Covid-19 pandemic led to the country-wide lockdown on 25 March 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned in this time? Maybe the meaning of resilience since small companies like us have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we have struggled to produce our trade platforms.
The print and packaging industries have been fortunate, although the commercial printing industry is still to recover. We have learned more about the digital transformation that affects commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future.
Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe amongst the 90 countries where our five platforms reach. Our traffic which more than doubled in 2020, has at times gone up by another 50% in 2021. And advertising which had fallen to pieces in 2020 and 2021, has started its return since January 2022.
As the economy approaches real growth with unevenness and shortages a given, we are looking forward to the PrintPack India exhibition in Greater Noida. We are again appointed to produce the Show Daily on all five days of the show from 26 to 30 May 2022.
